Dried Boat Sterculia Seed 胖大海 (Pang Da Hai) is a delicious tropical nut. The seeds of this plant are used as herbal remedies, particularly in Indonesian and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). 

Pang Da Hai is simply translated as “fat sea” because its cracked rind will expand and almost fill an entire cup once it is placed in boiling water. Therefore, plenty of water is required when this nut is cooked or soaked for culinary purposes.
