About

Dried Cloves, also known as Ding Xiang Gong, are aromatic flower buds from the clove tree (Syzygium aromaticum). They have been used for centuries in traditional medicine for their potential health benefits.

This flower originates from the Guangdong and Hainan provinces of China, and are collected in the period of September to March when the flower buds turn from green into red. They are known for their big, red-brownish strong fragrance.

Potential benefits

Digestion 😋: Dried Cloves are known for their carminative properties, which can help alleviate digestive issues such as bloating, gas, and indigestion. They may promote the secretion of digestive enzymes, aid in digestion, and relieve stomach discomfort.

Oral 👄: Ding Xiang are commonly used for their oral health benefits. They possess antimicrobial properties that can help inhibit the growth of bacteria in the mouth, potentially preventing oral infections, tooth decay, and bad breath. Clove oil or clove-infused mouthwashes are often used for oral hygiene.

Anti-inflammatory : Dried Cloves contain compounds with anti-inflammatory effects. They may help reduce inflammation in the body and relieve pain associated with conditions like arthritis, muscle soreness, and dental pain. Clove oil is sometimes applied topically to the affected area for localised relief.

Respiratory 💕: Ding Xiang are believed to have expectorant properties, making them useful in managing respiratory conditions such as coughs, colds, and bronchitis. They may help loosen phlegm, clear airways, and soothe respiratory discomfort.

Antioxidant 🍊: Dried Cloves are rich in antioxidants, which can help protect the body against oxidative stress and free radical damage. Antioxidants have various health benefits, including anti-aging effects and support for overall wellbeing.

Here are some suggestions on how to use Dried Cloves:

Culinary applications: Dried Cloves are widely used in cooking and baking. They add a warm and spicy flavour to both sweet and savory dishes. Cloves are commonly used in spice blends, such as pumpkin spice or garam masala, and are often used to flavour sauces, stews, soups, and marinades. They can also be used in baked goods like cookies, cakes, and bread for a distinctive taste.

Hot beverages: Ding Xiang are commonly used in hot beverages, especially during the winter months. They can be added to spiced teas, mulled wine, apple cider, or hot chocolate to enhance the flavour and provide a warm and comforting aroma.

Potpourri and scented sachets: Dried Cloves have a pleasant and aromatic scent. They are often used in potpourri mixes or added to scented sachets to freshen up closets, drawers, or rooms. Their fragrance can help mask odors and provide a pleasant ambiance.

Homemade personal care products: Cloves can be used in homemade personal care products for their aromatic properties. They can be added to homemade soaps, bath salts, or body scrubs to provide a natural fragrance. Clove oil, extracted from dried Cloves, is sometimes used in toothpaste or mouthwashes for its oral health benefits and refreshing scent.

Natural insect repellent: The strong scent of dried Cloves can act as a natural insect repellent. Placing Cloves or using Clove oil in sachets or near windows and doorways may help deter insects like mosquitoes, flies, or ants.

Herbal remedies: Dried Cloves have been used in traditional medicine for their potential health benefits. They are sometimes used in herbal preparations and remedies for digestive issues, respiratory ailments, or oral health problems. However, it's important to consult a healthcare professional or an herbalist before using Cloves for medicinal purposes.

When using dried Cloves, it's important to use them in moderation, as their strong flavour and aroma can easily overpower other ingredients.
