About

Dried Longan Fruit (Long Yan Rou) is a firm favourite throughout Asia for being deliciously sweet and juicy, quite similar to grapes!

In southern Asia, Longan grows in abundance due to the tropical climate and sandy soil.

They are related to other exquisite stoned fruits such as lychees and rambutans, each having inedible shells which encase an indulgent sweet fruit. The name Longan translates to 'dragon eyes', after the black stone visible through the translucent flesh.

This 500g pouch suits regular use. The same fruit is also stocked in a 100g pack, or as concentrated granules for brewing.

Potential Benefits

Naturally Sweet: Long Yan Rou has long been used as a natural sweetener in teas, congee, and desserts, with no need for added sugar.

Nutrient Content: These are naturally high in vitamins (B2, C) and fibre and are very low in calories.

Warming: Traditionally included in warming infusions, particularly during colder months.

Nourishing: Long valued in traditional preparations as a gentle, comforting ingredient.

Versatile: Its rich, honeyed flavour works across both sweet and savoury dishes.

Recommended Dosage

We recommend around 10g per portion.

The fruit can be eaten straight from the pack as a snack, or steeped in hot water for ten to fifteen minutes for a naturally sweet infusion. In cooking, add it to congee, soups, and desserts towards the end so it softens without breaking down.

Store in an airtight container in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight.

They can be used in a number of culinary dishes, and are classically paired with Dried Jujube Dates (Hong Zao) and Dried Goji Berries (Gou Qi Zi) in warming brews. You can read more in our blog on 5 great ways to use Dried Longan Fruit.
