Dried Myrobalan Fruit 诃子 (He Zi) usually flowers from June to August with fruit becoming available between August and October.

In China, this mainly grows in Tibet, Yunnan, Guangdong and Guangxi. Dried Myrobalan Fruits (He ZI) are edible, as well as being used in the manufacture of black salt. Seeds can be eaten as a snack. They have a flavour reminiscent of almonds or filberts. The sour fruits are eaten in salads, preserved in brine or fried. 

They can be used in a number of culinary dishes.
