About

Dried Szechuan Lovage Rhizome (Chuan Xiong) is the root of the lovage plant which can grow to a height of 40 to 60cm.

This is widely used in Chinese herbal formulas, and flowers appear in July through August, with young fruits beginning to grow between September through October.

In TCM, Dried Szechuan Lovage Rhizome can be infused with boiling water to make a functional herbal tea, or delicious soup!

All of our products are 100% natural and have a number of potential wellness benefits.

Chuan Xiong is classically combined with Dried Angelica Root (Dang Gui), Dried White Peony (Bai Shao Yao), and Dried Rehmannia Root in traditional preparations.

Potential Benefits

Aromatic: Chuan Xiong has a warm, distinctive fragrance that carries through into broths and infusions.

Circulation: Long included in traditional preparations associated with supporting natural circulation.

Balance: Used in traditional blends intended to potentially encourage a sense of natural equilibrium.

Traditional Heritage: One of the most widely used roots in Chinese herbal formulas, valued for centuries.

Versatile: Suits infusions and soups alike, usually as part of a blend rather than on its own.

Recommended Dosage

We recommend around 5g per portion.

The rhizome is firm, so simmer it in water for twenty to thirty minutes rather than steeping briefly, then strain. It has a pronounced aroma, so start with less and adjust to taste. It is usually used alongside other roots rather than alone.

Not suitable during pregnancy. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, taking anticoagulant medication, or due to have surgery, speak to a healthcare professional before use.

Store in an airtight container in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight.
