Astragalus root has been a staple of Chinese herbal tradition for centuries. Sourced from Astragalus membranaceus, the root is prepared here as concentrated granules, which dissolve in hot water in seconds.
You will also find it in our wider range of Chinese herbal granules, which suit modern routines while staying close to traditional preparation.
Whether taken on its own or blended with other traditional ingredients, astragalus is one of the most established herbs in the materia medica.
Concentrated granules are made by simmering the raw herb, filtering the liquid, then drying it into a soluble powder. The result dissolves in seconds, so there is no soaking, simmering or straining.
Because granules are concentrated, the flavour is considerably stronger than a light herbal tea. Keep the bottle sealed in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, and avoid using a wet spoon, as granules absorb moisture readily.
This 100g bottle contains concentrated granules. Astragalus is also stocked in two other forms:
Astragalus is rarely used on its own. These are the herbs it is most commonly combined with:
At Vita Herbal Nutrition, we are committed to providing the highest quality herbs, carefully selected and prepared without compromise.
Our herbs are 100% free from sulphur treatment. Sulphur is widely used in the industry to improve appearance and extend shelf life, but it alters the natural composition of the herb and may cause allergic reactions in some individuals. You can read more on our non-sulphur treated herbs page.
We source only DaoDi-grown Chinese herbs from clean, sustainable environments. Our relationships with growers, held since 2010, let us select material from its ideal region, harvested at the right time.

How do I use the granules?Measure out your usual amount, add hot water, and stir until fully dissolved. There is no soaking, simmering or straining, and nothing to strain out afterwards.
What is the difference between the granules and the loose root? The granules are a concentrated extract made by simmering the herb and drying the liquid, so the flavour is stronger and preparation takes seconds. The loose sliced root is the whole herb, which you prepare yourself.
What makes DaoDi-grown astragalus different?DaoDi material is cultivated in the herb's traditional region under the conditions that suit the plant. This is long held in Chinese practice to give a better quality of herb than material farmed outside its native area.
What does it taste like?Mild, earthy and sweet. In concentrated form the flavour is noticeably stronger than a herbal tea.
Is it suitable for everyone? If you are pregnant, taking prescribed medication, or have any existing health condition, check with your doctor or a qualified practitioner before use.
How should I store the bottle?Sealed, in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Replace the lid promptly and use a dry spoon, as granules take up moisture quickly.
