Dried Radish Seed (Lai Fu Zi) is widely cultivated across China and harvested in the summer when the fruit reaches full maturity.
These small yet flavourful seeds have a slightly pungent, earthy aroma and are a valued ingredient in traditional preparations.
Lai Fu Zi is often used in warm infusions, soups, and herbal blends. Its distinctive taste pairs well with a variety of ingredients, making it a versatile addition to teas and broths. It is classically combined with Dried Hawthorn Berries (Shan Zha), Dried Medicated Leaven (Shen Qu Jiao), and Dried Barley Grain (Mai Ya) in post-meal preparations.
Digestive Comfort: Lai Fu Zi has long been included in traditional preparations taken after meals.
Aromatic: Its slightly pungent, peppery character adds depth to broths and blends.
Balance: Used in traditional blends intended to potentially encourage a sense of natural equilibrium.
Traditional Pairing: Frequently combined with the other digestive herbs in the range rather than used alone.
Versatile: Suits decoctions, soups, and ground preparations alike.
We recommend around 5g per portion.
The seeds are usually crushed or lightly toasted before use to bring out the aroma, then simmered in water for fifteen to twenty minutes and strained. They can also be ground to a powder, or added whole to soups and broths.
Store in an airtight container in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight.
